5 EFFECTIVE MOVES FOR ALL BASKETBALL PLAYERS
These 5 moves are staples for Maximize Basketball Players of all ages and skill levels. Mastering these moves will allow players to be under control and more productive in situations that occur the most in games
1. BALL HANDLING
MOVE: SLIDE OUTS
Slide Outs are a great way for players to set up their defender. They do this by sliding, forcing their defender to move as well. Then after the slide they drop in to their Shot, Drive, or Counter Move. The move is effective because the offensive player is under control, it gives them time to make a read, and they are attacking a defender that is not set.
2. FINISHING
MOVE: OUTSIDE INSIDE FINISH
Players need to be able to play off of 2 feet. It slows them down, allows them to play with strength in the paint, and gives them time to find angles to score the ball. These outside inside finishes allow players to play off of 2 feet while also being a dynamic jumper in the paint.
3. POST PLAY
MOVE: MIDDLE HOOK-HOP
Guards and Bigs can play in the post. It is all about footwork and angles. The base for every good post player is the ability to get middle in to a little floater or hook. This move sets up all of your counters and allows you to get middle and find a teammate if you don't have a shot for yourself.
4. PLAYING OFF THE CATCH
MOVE: 1,2 AND SPLIT CATCH
Players can play with pace on the catch. This means they catch the ball with different footwork, heights, and speed. Catching on a 1,2 allows you to shoot or build in a jab. Catching split allows you to attack the defender quicker.
5. SHOOTING OFF THE DRIBBLE
MOVE: SAME SIDE STOP
Players create separation from their defenders on the 'stop'. If they can stop quickly, and on balance, they will have time to get in to a quality shot. The Same Side Stop allows players to stop in stride, replace their feet, and find their balance quickly.
